What a Little Kindness Can Do For Your Marketing

by Julia D. Stege

When we're thinking about marketing ourselves, we often think about practical matters, like how to reach our target audience and inspire them to buy something from us.  After all, marketing is about promotions, right?

Well, yes and no.  Marketing in the traditional sense used to be about targeting a niche and urging people to buy (sometimes scaring them in the process.)

But marketing can be about so much more than inspiring sales. Marketing can be about uplifting people.

I realize how strange this can sound to folks who fast forward over TV ads and spend way too much time deleting spam from their email inbox.  The fact is not enough people see marketing as a way to uplift people.

But you can I can be different. We can take an industry that has gone astray and make it our own.  And while we're at it, lets see if we can start a real trend.

What we can do is use the various mediums for marketing (like Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Ezines, and our own Websites) and use them to uplift and empower people.

We can promote other people, for starters. Retweet their Tweets, Share and Like their Facebook posts, or write kind words of praise on their Wall.

We can spread uplifting ideas that foster self-love, encourage transformation, and give people a warm, fuzzy feeling.

Whatever we do with the intention of spreading love and kindness has got to be a good thing.

And pssssst, guess what? You're bound to attract a perfect customer or two while you're at it.

Go forth and be kind, my friends. And please share in the comments below about how you're uplifting others online.

Good Source for Inspiring Quotes to Use on Twitter and Facebook

by Julia D. Stege, MFA

Posting regularly on your social networks is a good idea. It keeps your name and face in front of your peeps and on their mind. One of the most popular and most read posts are inspiring quotes. I have found a great resource for quotes online.

Spiritual Quotes and Wisdom Sayings
This Squidoo Lens has quite a few quotes by Lao Tzu as well as a huge list of quotes sites and a variety of quotes submitted by readers. Here are a couple of the quotes they list:

Inspiring Creativity: Strategies for Staying in the Flow

by Julia D. Stege, MFA

Marketing requires an fairly steady flow of creativity so we can come up with a compelling message, frequent blog posts, sales copy for our products and services, the list goes on.

The question is, how to avoid creators block and stay in the creative flow?

My first suggestion would be to relax. Creativity is our birth-right as humans. It is a cliche that our best ideas come in the shower but it's also true. I definitely recommend showers, baths, naps, massages, walks in nature, or a stroll down Main Street to get relaxed and create the space for creativity.

Another strategy for inspiring creativity is to visit museums, galleries, libraries, music and book stores. Being around great feats of creativity does a lot to foster the growth of ideas.

If you like Google, then searching can be a great source for inspiration and ideas. Pick any topic and start searching. See what you find.

Don't worry, the stream is right there ready to be tapped!

Is Your Marketing Uplifting?

I'm a pretty sensitive gal, and it hurts me to see so many people freaking out these days. According to the news, most Americans are experiencing a lot of fear and stress over current events. This is made even worse by a fear-mongering trend in media and advertising. I want to counter that trend with a bit of inspiration.

I want to thrive just as I want my prospects and customers to thrive. But thriving depends on maintaining a positive outlook and achieving happiness no matter what's going on in the world. To contribute to the thriving of my contacts, prospects and customers, I must maintain an uplifting spirit and send out only positive, inspiring messages to them in my conversations, my ezines, blog posts, and social media updates.

What can you do to help uplift your prospects and customers right now?

1) Understand their Challenges: To help uplift your prospects and customers you first want to learn what their challenges and problems are, and meet them there. You will want to ask them what they're dealing with and start noticing trends. You can survey your elist and/or folks registering for your free classes regarding their biggest challenge. You will give people an immediate feeling of relief just by asking, and if you can offer hope of a solution, your customers will start feeling better right away.

2) Offer Words of Encouragement: Let your prospects and customers know they aren't alone in their suffering. Offer examples of those who have overcome similar obstacles, and encourage your peeps to be confident. Inspire them with stories of success from you and/or your mentors.

3) Give Away Effective Tips: Offer your contacts free tips through your ezine, social networks, articles, and free teleclasses / podcasts. Give them enough information to help them to get moving in the direction of their goals and dreams. Consider the information you normally exchange with all your customers at the beginning of your relationship, and see if you can develop that into a free offering that helps people whether they hire you or not.

4) Develop Inspiring Articles - whatever uplifts you will likely uplift your peeps too. Write about what uplifts you and send it out to your contacts. If even just one or two people are helped by your article, it can start a viral campaign of sharing. You will become known as an uplifter and your popularity will grow.
